Navi Mumbai: Excavation underway near the 500-year-old Janjira Fort and the historic Nawab Tomb is worrying locals who fear that these heritage structures may be in danger. MUMBAI: In a first case of its kind, the industries and development commissioner Malini Shankar has asked Raigad collector Nipun Vinayak to cancel the 13-year-old land transaction between Surya Industries and local farmers following failure of the unit to take off.
Mumbai: Raigad's farmers are up in arms against the government, which, they say, is working in favour of Reliance for the proposed SEZ in their area and for this purpose wants to establish that 22 villages do not come under the command area of the Hetwane dam.
Three months have passed, but the Maharashtra government has not been able to finalise its report on the results of the September 22 referendum it had organised in 22 villages of Raigad district that form part of the 10,000-hectare Mumbai Special Economic Zone (SEZ) developed by Jai Corp, a company promoted by Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani's close associate Anand Jain.
The narrow, gravelly road leading to Ranavade village has a surprise at the end: clean streets, well-planned houses and colourful rangolis greet you inside the village. Located about 120km from Mumbai, this village in Raigad district is an oddity in modern India. Nobody here takes a loan from a bank or a moneylender, nor do they go to court. And they even vote for the same person.
In a bid to ensure better connectivity, with the proposed international airport at Navi Mumbai and the growth centers in Raigad district, the state government is planning a monorail route on the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL).
