The Tamil Nadu government was directed by the National Green Tribunal, southern zone, Chennai to publish the new rules and guidelines related to sewage management in newspapers to make the people aware of the same.

The court said that the departments concerned should strictly follow and implement the rules to bring under control the problem of sewage water being illegally disposed of.

The National Green Tribunal directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to verify whether adequate steps have been taken to stop the flow of sewage and other wastes flowing into the storm water drain of  Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam. Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam informed the Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development, Lucknow that there is now connectivity of wash waters and waste from dairies at three vulnerable points. 158 houses which were unconnected to the sewerage system has now been connected and hence no sewage is now being discharged into the drain.

Grievance in the application is against failure of the state authorities to prevent discharge of sewage on open land from ‘Nalanda Town’, a housing colony developed by a builder at Shamshabad Road area of Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Sewage is estimated to be 1.45 lakh litres per day. Agra Development Authority (ADA) is primarily responsible for such failure, the complaint said.

The NGT, December 6, 2022 directed a committee to be constituted to look into the matter of lack of green belt and sewage treatment plant in Sidhharth Vihar Yojna, a scheme of Awas Vikas Parishad, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The committee has to submit a report within one month, the court said.
