An attempt has been made to study the soil bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes population in Seabuckthorn stand soil at different altitudinal zones in different seasons. Among different altitudinal zones greater microbial population size was recorded in Seabuckthorn stand soil of middle elevation zone followed by lower elevation zone and lower was found in upper elevation zone.

A field study was done to study and document the indigenous knowledge of various ethnic groups of Sikkim regarding animal healthcare. A large number of plants was collected and the information on their ethno-veterinary uses was gathered from local inhabitants. The information about folk medicinal use, vernacular names of plants and the parts of the plants used are documented.

Gangtok: At least 12 labourers were killed when a dam being constructed by a private firm collapsed near Rongli in East Sikkim district, police said on Friday.

The Rang Po dam collapsed at about 9.00pm last night and so far 10 bodies have been recovered, but the toll could mount as it was still not clear how many labourers were at work at the site, Superintendent of Police M S Tuli said.
