The BJP government on Tuesday tabled in the Assembly a Bill that seeks to punish cow slaughter with a jail term of up to seven years, and makes transit permit compulsory if cows are transported through the state.

SHILLONG: In its bid to stop unhygienic slaughter of animals by butchers, the State Government will soon come out with a modern abattoir (slaughter house) to provide quality and hygienic meat to the consumers.
