With chlorinated water being identified as a key reason of residue problem, scientists have suggested the use of chlorine-free water for spraying in mushroom cultivation.

In a bid to make the state a global tourist attraction, Himachal Pradesh government has said it will set up its first international airport near Shimla, with about Rs 1,000 crore investment, under PPP mode.

The state government has initiated a slew of steps to promote tourism to increase its contribution to GDP to 10% from the present 8.5%, chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said on Monday.


The villagers had rejected the project promoted by Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL) at two public hearings held in June 2007 and in September 2009. But the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) cleared the project in Tikri village in Himachal in February.
