Shillong: The Shillong Cantonment Board (SCB) and the Syiem of Mylliem will have to answer to state government for contributing to accumulated polluting garbage in Iew Mawlong- Mawlonghat in the heart of Shillong.

The Municipal Corporation has issued 30-day show-cause notice to Jai Prakash Associates here today for failing to make the garbage processing plant operational within the prescribed time schedule under the provision of Clause 5.1 of the implementation agreement.

Of the thirteen municipal councils, 11 municipalities have finally acquired sites for setting up facilities for treatment of garbage. Valpoi and Mapusa which have not been able acquire sites within the stipulated time need to complete the task of acquiring sites and setting up facilities for treating garbage within next six months.

The sanitation week concluded here on Tuesday with a special drive for cleaning all wards of the panchayat. Members of the Mahila Mandal of Anoh Gram Panchayat in this subdivision along with panchayat representatives participated in the drive.
