Gandhinagar: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on Thursday announced setting up of 1,320 MW of coal-based power plant at a surplus piece of land next to the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation (GSEC)-run power plant at Dhuvaran.

Kolkata: Acute coal shortage in 32 coal-fired power stations is a clear indications of massive power cuts across the country in the coming 15 days. According to Central Electricity Authority (CEA) findings, 17 thermal power stations have coal supply for less than 7 days while 15 others can be run for only 4 days.

After investing nearly Rs 16,000 crore in its upcoming 4,620 MW coal-fired thermal power plant at Mundra, the Adani Group is now considering setting up yet another 4,000 MW coal-fired plant in the vicinity of the existing one in Gujarat's Kutch district.

Due to monsoon rains in the state during the last two days, the power demand has come down to 5000 megawatts from 5800 megawatts. At present, 4200 megawatt power is available to meet the demand.

Generally, 'Nav Tapa' (the 9 hottest days) ends on 4th or 5th June and by June 10 the monsoon enters the state. But, this year, monsoon is yet to come. Looking into the delay of monsoon the energy department, anticipating such a situation three months ago, had instructed the Madhya Pradesh Power Trading Company and Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company to prepare disaster management work plan.

SHILLONG: The State Government has stressed on the need to have more thermal power projects to tackle the ongoing power crisis in the State.

Power Minister AT Mondal on Tuesday admitted that the State was currently facing acute shortage of power even as "the State Government is making continuous attempts to over come it."

Due to coal shortage power production in thermal power projects of the MP Electricity Board has affected adversely. Several units have been closed because of shortage in coal supply. Electricity Board officials are trying their level best at the highest level to overcome the coal shortage. In spite of this supply of coal is being reduced.

Electricity is a critical infrastructure on which the socio-economic development of the State depends. The reliable, quality, and affordable power supply is one of the key drivers for the State's industrial and commercial growth. Punjab is far away from the coal mines/fuel sources. Higher freight on the coal/fuel substantially enhances the cost of power.

LUCKNOW: This summer, UP is on the precipice. With five major thermal power stations having tripped in the last five days, the state grid has lost 1,000mw of the total input of 2,500mw per day. Besides, one plant is in a shut-down mode for the last one-and-a-half years for renovation work.
