STATE-OWNED NTPC on Thursday said that it would set up a 1,320 MW coal-based thermal power project in Gujarat. The state government of Gujarat has given clearance for setting up the project on the surplus land at the existing Dhuvaran plant of the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited, the company said.

Kolkata: Acute coal shortage in 32 coal-fired power stations is a clear indications of massive power cuts across the country in the coming 15 days. Due to monsoon rains in the state during the last two days, the power demand has come down to 5000 megawatts from 5800 megawatts. At present, 4200 megawatt power is available to meet the demand.

Generally, 'Nav Tapa' (the 9 hottest days) ends on 4th or 5th June and by June 10 the monsoon enters the state. But, this year, monsoon is yet to come. Looking into the delay of monsoon the energy department, anticipating such a situation three months ago, had instructed the Madhya Pradesh Power Trading Company and Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company to prepare disaster management work plan.
