The government has decided to set up 20 new plants with a generation capacity of 3,551 megawatt electricity by 2014 to meet the growing demand in the country.

As per the decision, 20 power plants would be built under short-term and long-term plans in both public and private sectors.

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam has appointed a private firm, Tata Consulting Engineers, of Bangalore as consultant for designing and engineering of the four super critical units to be established at the super thermal power stations at Chhabra in Baran district and Suratgarh in Sriganganagar district.

Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the allocation of more than Rs 100 billion in the budget 2009-10 for ongoing and new projects was a good sign for future of the country especially for ensuring provision of electricity to all.
