Total Sanitation Campaign was renamed as Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA)

A State-level convention on total sanitation campaign will be held on April 29 at 10 am at the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi AC Indoor Stadium at Sarusajai for official launching of the International Year of Sanitation, 2008, a press release said. Besides the Chief Minister, ministers of line departments will also address the convention.

Over 40 thousand Village Water and Sanitation Committees have been constituted in the state under Total Sanitation Campaign. Importantly, all the members of the committees are women.

Arsenic and flourides are found in the underground water in Barak valley. In order to make underground water free from arsenic and flourides all necessary preventive measure have been adopted by the State government. The PHE Minister Rihon Daimary disclosed the fact while inaugurating Kumbhirgram TE water supply scheme.

The Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC), a national program for sanitation by the Government of India, has been ongoing for more than three years. The TSC program is managed by the Rajiv Ghandi Mission for Drinking Water of the Rural Development Department at the national level.


A total of 509 toilets have been constructed in schools against the district administration's target of 532. Moreover, toilets have been constructed in all the anganvadis in the district

The Total Sanitation Campaign was launched in 1999, advocating a shift from a high to a low subsidy regime, and greater community involvement.
