NEW DELHI: The Capital is seeing a spurt in the number of dengue cases with nearly a dozen persons testing positive for the vector-borne disease this week, taking the total tally of positive cases so far this season to 320. Two dengue deaths have also been reported this year. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has admitted that there has been an increase in the number of dengue cases this month.

States that are Maoist strongholds have one more thing in common: they all appear to be malaria hotspots. The disease is finding a safe haven in these areas that lack development and effective governance to curb the disease.

The health department heaved a sigh of relief as the climate changed. Due to onset of winter number of dengue fever patients in the city has come down. As the night temperature is coming down number of mosquitoes that spread dengue fever has also reduced. It is said that all dengue mosquitoes would be destroyed when the night temperature reaches below 16 degrees Celsius.

Oct. 26: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will release about one lakh Gambusia species of fish in all major water bodies including Hussain Sagar to end the mosquito menace.
The civic body is taking this step as all its other efforts to contain spread of mosquitoes failed.

Oct. 25: Hyderabad district has 125 dengue cases, 62 of them confirmed, with one death.
In Ranga Reddy district, 28 cases of dengue have been reported. Though many suspected cases of chikungunya have also been reported, only one has been confirmed in Hyderabad.
