Dec. 15: Trucks and two-wheeler accidents make up more than 50 per cent of the fatal road accidents that took place in Vijayawada police commissionerate limits this year since January, 2010.

Truck accidents comprise 36 per cent of the total fatalities while the two-wheeler accidents are 16 per cent of the total deaths.

Dec. 15 :The union minister of state for textiles, Ms Panabaka Lakshmi, assured that she would recommend the government to pay compensation to the farmers whose crop was damaged due to recent rains.

She visited Pandurangapuram and Binniboinavaripalem villages on Wednesday and inspected the paddy and groundnut fields and consoled the farmers.

Hyderabad, Oct. 11: Despite repeated requests from environmentalists, the state forest department has failed to protect and translocate the Kalpavriskha trees, a rare and endangered species, situated along the highways. Thus from 20 such trees in the state, there are now only 13.

They have, instead been removed during highway extension and while laying the Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad.

Vijayawada, Sept. 8: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation prepared an action plan with Rs 2,223 crore to make the city slum-free under the Rajiv Awaz Yojana (RAY).

The VMC has identified 109 slums in the city for the implementation of RAY in five years from 2010 to 15.

Aug. 22: With the directive issued by the state government, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation will collect garbage tax of Rs 9 crore per annum in the city from December 2010.

khammam, Aug. 18: Viral fevers have been spreading in the Agency mandals across the district over the past week.

The fevers claimed eight lives in four mandals. At least, 30 people are suffering from fevers. Dengue and malaria arer spreading rapidly in Wazed, Dummugudem, Burgampadu and Aswapuram mandals.

Aug. 12: At least 30 people are suffering from diarrhoea at Chandrapuram under Aswapuram mandal on Thursday. According to sources, the condition of all the patients was said to be stable. They were admitted to the Bhadrachalam government hospital.

Vijayawada, Aug. 11: The district collector, Mr Peeyush Kumar, on Wednesday instructed the medical and health, municipal and panchayat officials to take preventive measures to check seasonal diseases, most importantly malaria and viral fevers in the district during this monsoon.
