The right of way for the pedestrians envisaged as per the original concept of the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) comes under threat at the proposed BRTS corridor in the city. In the BRTS corridor report, as being presently proposed, the pedestrians are likely to face the threat of getting sandwiched between buses and the railings of bus stops.

The Forum for Sustainable Development, (FSD), engaged in advocating sustainable development, has asked the government to evaluate the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS), its impact on the society, environment and public safety before its launch, said forum convenor of the coastal areas, Mr S. Bhujanga Rao.

The city would be made free from the nasty sight of dustbins and the garbage strewn around them in just four months, said the commissioner, Mr Mukesh Kumar Meena, who returned from Hyderabad after attending a workshop there on sanitation. Talking to the reporters here, Mr Meena said already a pilot project has been launched in Ward Nos 6, 8, 9, 11, 18 and 19 on experimental basis and as it proved to be a successful venture, the project will be implemented all over the city in four months.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, set the foundation stone for scattered houses scheme at the Praja Patham programme held during his visit to the district here on Wednesday. Monitoring of ambient air quality and noise pollution was conducted at 'Asselmetta junction' in Visakhapatnam city (Andhra Pradesh), which is heart of the city with an important traffic junction and a well known business center. In this area, monitoring was done for 10 days over RSPM, TSPM, NOx and SO2 levels in the air using 'noiseless repirable dust sampler' and for 4 days over noise pollution levels using 'sound level meter'.
