The weeklong stir by villagers of Phursungi and Uruli Devachi was called off on Thursday after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) assured that the dumping of garbage in the villages would be stopped after seven months. Garbage had piled up in Pune city as villagers had blocked dumping.

Pune Though the district and civic authorities have promised to start segregating the dry and wet garbage in the next three months and that open dumping of garbage will be stopped in six months, the villagers of Urali Devachi and Phursungi on Monday deferred any decision regarding the Pune Municipal Corporation lifting garbage from the bins.
