The matter relates to environmental issues, waste management in the armed forces, as well as Siachen glacier ecological issues and cantonment and military stations. The report is in compliance to the NGT order of February 11, 2020.

The applications seeks enforcement of ‘Extended Producer Responsibility’ under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016. One of the petition seeks enforcement of the liability against Amazon and Flipkart using excessive plastic packaging material without meeting statutory liability.

The issue for consideration was the remedial action against cheap waste paper and the road sweep waste import for firing of brick kilns. According to the applicant, 900,000 tons of waste is imported which is hazardous.

The application was filed on September 23, 2015 with a prayer to direct regulation of disposal of cigarette and bidi butts, apart from prohibiting consumption of tobacco in public places.
