Lucknow: After delay of almost a year, the city has to wait for two more months to get the municipal solid waste (MSW) treatment plant operational in Shivri village. The plant was launched under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme in 2007. After incorporating various changes, it was targeted to complete by June 2013, but it was potponed to December 2013 and finally March ’14.

The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has issued directions to three municipal councils for treating waste by violating Environment Protection Act leading to pollution in the vicinities.

The directions were issued to Mormugao Municipal council, Mapusa Municipal Council and Sanquelim Municipal Council, have been issued under section 5 of the Environment (protection) Act 1986, read with Municipal Solid Waste (Management and handling) rules, 2000.
