Annual status report on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) 2012

This new report released at CoP18 in Doha captures snapshot of NAMA development activities around the world and brings insights into the key topics of finance, capacity development and measurement, reporting and verification.

In this synthesis report, Ecofys, the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN), the Centre for Clean Air Policy (CCAP), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the World Resources Institute (WRI) draw on their respective experiences with Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs). The report captures a snapshot of NAMA development activities around the world and brings insights into the key topics of finance, capacity development and measurement, reporting and verification. The authors evaluate how the NAMA mechanism has developed worldwide and draw attention to where progress is most needed. The report concludes that NAMAs have the potential to become a key instrument in driving ambitious mitigation actions in developing countries and progress is needed to deliver finance and strengthen the policy underpinnings of this new framework.
