The mobility opportunity: improving public transport to drive economic growth

Crowded buses and metros, congested roads, noise and air pollution, have all become normal hassles of everyday life in cities across the world. As more and more people flock to urban centers, pressures increase on out-of-date or poorly developed transport systems. With tight public budgets to grapple with, how can cities go about equipping their transportation networks for the future? For the first time, a new study from the London-based transport consultancy Credo, and commissioned by Siemens, puts the public transport systems of 35 global cities under the magnifying glass. The goal: Quantify the potential economic uplift cities could realize by investing in transport improvements. The study, "The Mobility Opportunity," takes this research one step further, presenting recommendations for cities. From increasing capacity in one city, to investing in a better quality of public transport in another, the study presents solutions for progress. In the end, all cities have much to gain by taking actions today to improve transport systems for tomorrow.
