The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Union Environment and Forests Ministry has reiterated its recommendation, given three years ago, for granting environmental clearance for the Rs. 8,400-crore Udangudi supercritical thermal power project.

An environment panel has recommended that Tata Steel be allowed to expand its production from the Sukhinda chromite mines in Odisha, paving the way for the company to resume operations that were suspended in January.

PANJIM: Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has constituted 11 members Expert Appraisal Committee to examine issues relating to both, environment clearances of iron ore mining leases and illegal handling of dumps in Goa.

The Appraisal Committee, chaired by ex-secretary MoEF, Vishwanath Anand, has been directed to submit its report within three months by making case to case recommendations to MoEF.

PANJIM: The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests told the Supreme Court that “it had no choice” but to consider the area within 10 km of all national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in Goa, as ecologically sensitive zones, thus bringing a majority of mining leases in the State within the zone.
