The grievance of the applicant is that railway bridge between Daraganj and Jhunsi is being constructed on the flood plains of river Ganga and across the river Ganga without any prior approval from National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). There was a further allegation that the project proponent was throwing muck in the river during the course of construction.

Amicus Curiae in the earlier proceedings had pointed out that not only the issue of chromium dump is involved, but mercury, fluoride and iron has also been found in the groundwater. Amicus had visited the affected site and had submitted the report disclosing the pathetic condition therein.

Affidavit filed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in the matter of News item titled "Siliguri protests dumping of Sikkim waste, raises health and environmental concerns" appearing in the Telegraph dated November 12, 2024. The matter related to unauthorized dumping of waste at a vacant plot in Farabari near Siliguri, West Bengal allegedly from the neighbouring state of Sikkim. As per the article, the vacant plot where waste is being dumped is just around 50 meters from the boundary of the Baikunthapur forest, which poses riks to wildlife.
