The NGT, February 21 directed a joint committee to look into the allegations of an industry (M/s A.P. Refinery Pvt. Ltd.) located at Nakodar road, Jagraon, district Ludhiana, Punjab contaminating groundwater.

The joint committee will comprise representatives of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Punjab Pollution Control Board, District Magistrate, Ludhiana and Central Groundwater Authority (CGWA).

The industry is in the business of solvent extraction, refining and supply of refined rice bran oil.

Status note by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in Original Application No 620 of 2022 (Kaushal Kishore Vishwakarma Vs State of Punjab & Others) dated 21/02/2024.

The NGT, Principal Bench vide order, January 8, 2024 (Original Application No 620/2022) directed the CPCB to obtain the requisite information from Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Ltd. Jharkhand regarding generation and disposal of carbon slurry and also to verify the factual position regarding storage and disposal of carbon slurry in its plant by any similar industries in their jurisdiction.

Report by the Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and adjoining areas in compliance with the National Green Tribunal order, January 3, 2024. The Tribunal had called upon the Commission to file a report on steps to address and tackle the various contributory causes of air pollution in the region.
