Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has slammed the recent hike in CNG prices, a fuel which drives public transport. This has almost destroyed the price advantage that CNG had over diesel, said Sunita Narain, director general, CSE.

This makes the price differential between a greener and a polluting fuel much closer - removing the advantage of running a vehicle on cleaner fuel, say CSE researchers.

Lucknow: The high court on Friday asked the central and state governments to consider converting all public transport vehicles in Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra into CNG-operated ones to control the ever-increasing levels of air pollution. Old Proposal Of 2 Corridors Scrapped

Lucknow: The much-awaited report of the department of urban planning on the proposed Metro project in the city has made radical changes in the original plan. While it has totally done away with the ‘two corridor’ concept and instead recommended a dense network of Metro connectivity in the city, the entire route has been proposed to be built overhead to save cost. Downstream Portion Of River Highly Polluted

Lucknow: Hinting at the dangerous level of pollutants dissolved in the Gomti riverbed, UP Jal Nigam on Tuesday informed the Parliamentary Committee that around 37 million litres per day of untreated sewage is flowing into the river. Even though the official figures don’t ring an alarming bell at the moment, few LMC officials said the extent of untreated sewage flowing into the river is much more than what is being quoted by the Jal Nigam.
