Five months after it acquired 65% stake in Gujarat Gas Company Ltd (GGCL), GSPC or Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation is planning to merge its city gas distribution entity, GSPC Gas Company Ltd with Gujarat Gas Corporation Limited (GGCL). Persons close to the development said this would not only help GSPC create India's largest city gas distribution company but also allow it to transfer the loans it took to acquire GGCL on its books as the company is listed.

However, experts from the oil and gas industry feel that the move by company would not bring much relief in the present high price situation

City gas distribution major Gujarat Gas Company Ltd (GGCL) has decided to focus on domestic suppliers for procurement of LNG after its supply contract with BG gorup subsidiary, BG India Energy Solutions Private Limited (BGIES) expired last month. GGCL used to source re-gasified LNG (RLNG) from BGIES. After British Gas Group sold its stake in GGCL in October, 2012, the company has decided to give preference to domestic suppliers. GGCL has PNG customer base of over 350,000 in three cities of Surat, Ankleshwar and Bharuch. It also has close to 200,000 CNG consumers.

As against planned gas production of 95.87 mcm, company produced 153.992 mcm

Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) has achieved highest natural gas production from its Gujarat gas fields for the month of November, a statement from the union ministry of petroleum and natural gas (MoPNG) showed. As against the planned monthly natural gas production of 95.87 million cubic meters (mcm), ONGC produced 153.992 mcm of natural gas from its Gujarat assets during November, achieving 160 per cent of the planned production. This is the highest production achieved among other exploration companies in the country for the month.

Plans to open International Centre on Mining Safety and Automation with industry support

State-owned mining major, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (GMDC) is planning to set up centres of excellence for the stone industry in North Gujarat. The company is also searching for an industry partner to set up an international centre on mining safety and automation, top government official informed on Monday. "The board of directors of the company has decided to set up an international centre on mining safety and automation in Gujarat. Also, at Ambaji in North Gujarat, we are trying to set up centres of excellence for the stone industry, to provide skill enhancement for the youth in the mining sector," said M Sahu, principal secretary, department of industries and mines, Government of Gujarat.

Vadodara Gas Company Ltd (VGCL), a city gas distribution (CGD) player joint promoted by Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and GAIL Gas Limited is looking to expand its consumer base by adding 200,000 domestic consumers over the next five years.

With the existing base of about 75,000 domestic gas consumers and about 2800 commercial units, VMC believes that the GAIL Gas JV would help expand the existing CGD network in Vadodara and add about 30 new CNG stations in the city over the next five years, a VMC official informed.
