On 15 August 2014, the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, announced the intention to launch a new mission, Swachh Bharat, on 2 October 2014, Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.

ORF report "Attitude towards Water in India", authored by Samir Saran, Sonali Mitra and Sarah Hassan, seeks to decode the diverse perspectives around water and rivers. It attempts to tease out the diversity in understanding of water challenges and difference in approaches to managing water across sectors, communities and geographies.

As India braces itself for an over-ambitious Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, it also has to deliberate the prospects of developing other renewable energy resources. Of all the non-conventional renewable energy sources, small hydro represents the highest density resource.
