KOCHI: The revised fund allocation for the Meenachil River Valley project in the state budget is a clear indication that Finance Minister K M Mani wants to go ahead with the proposal that is supposed to serve the irrigation purpose of Pala and Irattupetta.

But the local bodies in the neighbouring districts have come up with protest against the implementation of the project.

KOCHI: Following the footsteps of major cities in the country, Kochi too is marching ahead in its quest to curb the e-waste menace. The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (CREDAI), the participating agency for the integrated environment awareness programme organised by the Kochi Corporation, has come up with an e-waste management project.

KOCHI: Once Chinese nets and fishermen catching fish using this traditional gear was a common sight in Eloor situated on the banks of the River Periyar.

Fishery resources from this region used to be a major means of income for thousands of families belonging to this area.

However, effluent discharge and indiscriminate sand mining in this portion of the river has made it almost lifeless.

KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation is playing hide and seek by announcing the launch of Brahmapuram Waste Treatment. Though they have announced the launch of a new plant, the authorities are mum about the functioning of the existing plant where tonnes of waste has accumulated.

The initial plan was to produce manure from the waste but this was not carried out on a large-scale basis.

KOCHI: Hinting that the preparation of the master plan for Smart City Kochi may be delayed further, the project authorities have made it clear that some modifications are required in the plan.

KOCHI: The abandoned grounds of Manapattiparambu are buzzing with activity. The preliminary work of the Kochi Metro Rail project has started in Manapattiparambu. The area will be used for the casting of girders and other equipment for the reconstruction of the North Overbridge.

The JCB has been doing the rounds on the Manappattiparambu since Monday.

KOCHI: Even during the heavy monsoon showers, the Chellanam panchayat is reeling under acute potable water shortage. Being an area situated next to the sea, the major source of potable water for the people in this area is the water supplied by the Kerala Water Authority and in tanker lorries. But the situation has worsened recently.

KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation has said that it will look into complaints of workers not clearing garbage timely, even as it called up councillors to be more responsive and alert the local body about to such issues.

KOCHI: Giving a boost to the Kochi Metro Rail project, the state government has decided to constitute a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the implementation of the project. The state Cabinet which met on Wednesday decided to constitute the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd with the Chief Minister as its chairman.

Once the company is registered, it will oversee the implementation of the project.
