The effluent and emission standards for oil refineries were notified under Environment (Protection) Act in the years 1986 and 1990, respectively. These standards were same for old & new refineries and considered only few parameters. There was need to include additional parameters viz. Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), etc.

The landfill is an unavoidable component in MSW Management and its planning and design, construction, operation & maintenance involves technical skills and safety measures in terms of health and environmental protection.

This report presents results of ambient air quality monitoring carried out during the year 2007 at various monitoring stations under National Air Quality Monitoring Programme (NAMP). Four pollutants namely sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, respirable suspended particulate matter and suspended particulate matter are monitored regularly at various monitoring locations. The air quality is described in terms of low, moderate, high and critical levels based on an exceedence factor.

The water quality data on rivers, lakes, ponds, tanks and groundwater locations being monitored under the network is evaluated against the water quality criteria and the monitoring locations in exceedence with respect to one or more parameters are identified as polluted and require action for restoration of water quality.

Air quality standards provide a legal framework for air pollution control. An air quality standard is a description of a level of air quality that is adopted by a regulatory authority as enforceable.

The objective of this document is to specify suitable requirements and procedures for carrying out monitoring of ambient noise levels around airports due to aircrafts. A proper database is essential for planning and executing suitable noise control programme for airports in the country.

The electrical and electronic waste (e-waste) is one of the fastest growing waste streams in the world. The increasing

The major objectives of this study are: assessment of air pollution concentrations at different locations with varying number of anthropogenic sources of pollution; to study the temporal and diurnal variation in pollutants concentration along with traffic activities; to assess the status of air pollution to adjudge the effectiveness of air pollution control strategies and long term management of air pollution; and to formulate further preventive and control measures for abatement of air pollution.
