The Power Ministry has sought comments on a revised draft of the Electricity Amendment Bill which seeks to separate carriage and content businesses to enable consumers to switch their power suppliers as they do for telecom services. The feedback on the revised Electricity Amendment Bill 2018 has been sought within 45 days.

The Guidelines for Tariff Based Competitive Bidding Process for Procurement of Power from Grid Connected Solar PV Power Projects have been notified under the provisions of Section 63 of the Electricity Act, 2003 vide resolution No. 23/27/2017-R&R published in the Gazette of India (Extraordinary) (Part I—Section 1) on 3rd August, 2017.

The Union power ministry has proposed amending the Electricity Act 2003 and has sought comments, suggestions and opinion on the draft amendments in Electricity Act 2003 till Nov 15, 2013.

This bill by the Union Ministry of Power aims to ensure that the state governments are responsible for the financial and operational turn around and long term sustainability of the state-owned distribution licensee and provide adequate electricity supply to consumers.
