Government of India is designing National Mission on Enhanced Energy Efficiency (NMEEE), which is one out of eight missions planned under the National Action Plan on Climate Change. This note presents a short overview of the planned actions.

National Mission on Enhanced Energy Efficiency approved by the Prime Minister's Council on Climate Change. This mission will help save about 5 per cent of the annual energy consumption by 2015, & nearly 100 million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.

The focus area of the programme shall be the actual demonstrable performance in terms of sustained loss reduction, establishment of reliable and automated systems for sustained collection of accurate base line data, and the adoption of information technology in the areas of energy accounting shall be necessary pre-conditions before sanctioning any regular distribution strengthening project.
