In what is being seen as the first such effort to root out water mafia, the Delhi Jal Board’s (DJB) special taskforce carried out a massive operation in Sangam Vihar and Deoli village in South Delhi.

It is the task force’s second recommendation in a week. The first recommendation was made on Monday — to transfer 800 of its staff.

The National Green Tribunal on Wednesday ordered closure of 12 eating joints in Delhi’s Hauz Khas area for not having applied for consent to operate till date since its last year’s order directing them to do so after complying with all the norms.

A bench headed by justices P Jyothimani and M S Nambiar gave the restaurants a week’s time to apply for consent to operate (CTO) and directed Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to take a decision on their applications on receiving them.

New Delhi: Only 300 restaurants and hotels in Delhi have taken clearance from Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), while thousands of others may be operating without its consent, violating the norms under water and air acts along with other environmental regulations.
