SHILLONG: The Leader of Opposition in Meghalaya Legislative Assembly demanded the State Government to close all the cement plants operating illegally in Jaintia Hills district, which have violated the Forest Conservation Act, 1980.

Speaking to reporters in Shillong on Friday, Conrad Sangma said, “The high level committee of the government has found that most of the cement factories in Jaintia Hills are set up in the middle of the forest”.

SHILLONG: Highlighting the sensitivity of the issue of mining in the State, Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong on Wednesday assured of bringing out the State Mining Policy at the earliest.

“We would like to put in place the Mining Policy at the earliest to regulate mining activities in the State,” Lanong who is in charge of Mining and Geology said.

SHILLONG: The Planning Commission has approved the inter-state bus terminus (ISBT) and inter-state truck terminus (ISTT) projects of the State Government.

Disclosing this here on Tuesday, Transport Minister AT Mondal said the budget of the two projects has been fixed at Rs 48.31 crore and Rs 26 crore respectively.
