“That the garbage clearance will improve once the Corporation takes over is only a convenient excuse. He is supposed to ensure that the garbage is cleared every day. But it is done only once a week. The stench is unbearable, especially after a spell of rain,” says SD Sankaralingam, a resident of Sunrise Avenue.

Government is seriously considering a re-look on collection and disposal of garbage by private operator.
Expressing displeasure over the way garbage is handled, he said the decision to hand over garbage collection and disposal to private player by the previous government needs a re-look.

An amount of Rs. 50 crore has been earmarked towards the implementation of a marine discharge project for treated effluents from dyeing and bleaching units, situated mostly in the western belt of the State.
