For the next five months, every Saturday, about 5,000 students from various schools and colleges will be seen measuring trees on the streets of the city. The students are part of an exercise to develop a census of the tree population in Greater Chennai, which extends from Tambaram to Avadi.
Local body does not have wherewithal to manage its waste
Vellalore town panchayat has sought permission to use the Coimbatore Corporation's solid waste management facility. The Corporation has the facility - a waste segregation plant and landfill site within the town panchayat limits.
Farmers would also be trained in production of quality seeds. The training modules would cover selection of varieties, seasonal application of bio-fertilizers, micro-nutrients and improved seed production technologies.

Power infrastructure will be developed using Information Technology in Dindigul and Palani TNEB divisions for the convenience of consumers at an estimated cost of Rs.27 crore under Power Development and Rehabilitation Scheme.
