Agartala: State-owned ONGC’s proposed gas-based fertiliser plant in Tripura would meet the growing shortage of urea in the eastern and northeastern states of India and neighbouring Bangladesh, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said here Wednesday.

ONGC in association with Tata Chemicals and the Tripura government would set up a Rs.5,000 crore plant in northern Tripura.

Agartala: As many as 100 people, including 24 children, fell ill on Tuesday after consumption of food on the occasion of Biswakarma puja in Kanchanpur of North Tripura along Tripura-Mizoram border.

Official sources here on Wednesday confirmed that all of them were rushed to a local hospital following complaint of food poisoning. They felt uneasy after eating khichdi served at the house of president of Tripura Motor Shramik Union (TMSU) Gurupada Das.

Agartala: To reduce dependency on conventional energy, the Tripura government Wednesday announced ambitious plans to make Agartala a ‘solar city’, replacing at least 10 percent of usual power use by solar energy.

“Agartala city would be the first ‘solar city’ in northeast India within the next few years,” Tripura’s Urban Development Minister Manik Dey said after inaugurating a 50 kilowatt solar power plant at the Agartala Municipal Council head office here.

Agartala: Tata Chemicals will set up a Rs 5,000 crore, gas-based urea plant in northern Tripura in association with State-owned ONGC and Tripura government, officials said here on Tuesday.

ONGC Chairman Sudhir Vasudeva held a meeting with Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in New Delhi on Monday and discussed the matter. “The ONGC CMD informed the Chief Minister that the Tata Chemicals has been chosen as the private partner to set up the fertilizer project in northern Tripura,” a State industry department official told reporters.

Agartala: The 726 MW first commercial power plant of state-owned ONGC at Palatana in southern Tripura will start generating electricity this month-end, company officials said here Monday.

ONGC, the Tripura government and infrastructure and financial service company IL&FS have jointly floated the ONGC-Tripura Power Company Limited (OTPC). The plant will help ONGC to monetise its huge gas reserves and assets in Tripura.

Tripura has given land rights to more than one lakh tribal families under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006.

While unfolding report cards in the field of Rural Development and Forest departments, RD Minister Jitendra Chowdhury on Tuesday said the government had given emphasis on overall socio-economic development in rural areas.

Agartala: To ensure development of forest-dwelling communities, the Tripura Government has designated as many as 62 locations in remote parts of the state as ‘Forest Village’, said state Forest Minister Jitendra Choudhury.

In such locations the state government had already extended development projects for 1508 people of 236 tribal families living in the hamlets and the administration had undertaken income generation schemes for the dwellers.

Agartala: Perched on hills and remote areas of Tripura, 45 villages and 797 localities were lit up with solar energy in the last five years, a minister said on Friday.

Debroy said, solar energy treatment plants would be set up in 100 schools in remote areas this year and 1000 bio-gas plant would be set up. He said, very soon 100 solar lights would illuminate a portion of Agartala town. He said North East Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) has planned to set up a five megawatt solar energy plant at Monarchak in Sipahijala district

Agartala: The Northeast’s fourth mega food park will be set up in Tripura at a cost of Rs 72 crore to accelerate the growth of food processing industry in the region, a minister said here on Sunday.

It will be used to preserve fruits and vegetables coming from the country and abroad. According to Tripura Industries and Commerce Minister Jitendra Choudhury, Assam has two Green Field Mega Food Parks while another such park is being set up in Manipur.
