Residents of several colonies including those of Madhapur near Hitech city area are being supplied with water mixed with faecal matter by Hyderabad Metro-
politan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).

BANGALORE: For the first time in 35 years, the Department of Water Resources has taken up modernisation of the Tungabhadra Dam and canal system, which irrigates lakhs of acres of land in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, at a cost of Rs.192 crore.

Announcing this at a press conference, Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the work would be over by June-end.

May 7: In the backdrop of 500 people taking ill due to water contamination in and around Bholakpur, concerned citizens have voiced their apprehension over the functioning of animal skin and hides trade in the area even as government officials were trying to pass the buck.

May 7: Nearly 100 fresh cases, mostly children suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea, were reported at various hospitals in the city on Thursday while some of the patients were refusing to leave the hospital despite being given the discharge slip. The principal secretary for health, Mr L.V. Subramaniam said:

May 7: The biological analysis of water samples from Bholakpur revealed abnormal presence of E.coli which is found in human faeces.
According to health experts, water that has high E.coli content is unfit for human consumption. In all, seven persons have died and 300 others were hospitalised after drinking contaminated water supplied through pipelines in Bholakpur.

HYDERABAD: It is supposed to be the elixir of life. But consumption of contaminated water claimed five lives and led to the hospitalisation of over 200 persons in Bholakpur locality in the Andhra Pradesh capital on Tuesday.

VED JAINThe Maytas Infrastructure board is scheduled to meet next week to evaluate the Rs 12,000-crore Hyderabad Metro project. The six-member board, with majority of directors nominated by the government, is evaluating the various aspects of the prestigious project, including land acquisition and financial closure.

Seven persons, three of them children, died and 200 others were hospitalised after they consumed contaminated water in Bholakpur and its adjoining areas in the heart of the new city.

May 5: The exploration team have unearthed gold mines at Betamcherla and Pattikonda in Kurnool district here.
According to sources, two international companies will carry out the mining activities here. Though the Central government has given permission to one of these companies, another company is awaiting clearance, the sources said.
