Natural breeding of gharyals in the Chambal river has come as a ray of hope after the existence of the species was endangered with more than 100 of them dying due to a toxic chemical from end of 2007 to early 2008. The actual number of ghariyals is still unclear as the census would be carried out in February.

Beetal is the only recognised goat breed in Punjab. Due to indiscriminate slaughter, breeding and movement to other states, this breed was on the verge of extinction from its home tract.

The population of Beetal goat in Punjab had declined drastically to less than 10,000. A limited number of breed animals were found in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Taran Taran and Ferozepur districts of Punjab.

Ahmedabad: Despite getting four zoobred lions from Hyderabad, Delhi and Bhopal, the Madhya Pradesh (MP) will once again push for getting wild Asiatic lions from Gir sanctuary. Conservator of forest, Gwalior Murli Krishnan said he was in New Delhi on Monday to submit a report raising objections to the allocation of zoo-bred lions in the name of conservation.

Under the auspices of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Gossaigaon, a day-long training programme on scientific pig farming was held on the premises of Jaflong Harimandir in Ganger village of Kokrajhar district. The training was aimed at creating motivation among the marginalised villagers to adopt livestock as a way and mean of livelihood.
