The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board took more than 200 random samples of drinking water in Basaveshwarnagar to test their quality, on Thursday.

Urges Supreme Court to modify order on supply to Tamil Nadu

The Karnataka government on Thursday moved the Supreme Court, seeking a stay/modification of its September 28 order, which directed the State to release 9,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu daily till October 15 as per the orders of the Cauvery River Authority headed by the Prime Minister. In its application, Karnataka pointed out that it had complied with the order by releasing 99,601 cusecs (from September 20 to October 3).

Even as the State received the lowest quantum of Cauvery flows during the southwest monsoon (June-September) in the last two decades, Union Water Resources Secretary Dhruv Vijai Singh is to visit Chennai and Bangalore on Thursday (October 4) to meet officials of the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka governments for discussions on the Cauvery issue.

His discussions in Chennai and Bangalore would form part of his preparations for the Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC)’s meeting in New Delhi on October 8 to review the position.
