KOCHI: With 11 municipalities and a municipal corporation, Ernakulam tops the list of the most urbanised districts in Kerala with 68.07 percent of its residents living in urban areas, according to Census 2011 findings.

Of the total population of 32,79,860 in the coastal district, 22,32,564 live in urban areas, according to the Directorate of Census Operations, Kerala.

The rural population of the state has dropped to 66.51 per cent in 2011 census compared with the 72.7 per cent in 2001 census.
