Chandigarh, September 07 Neither the bylaws nor any architectural norms apparently exist anymore in any of the villages

Even after city villages have been included in the Municipal limits of Chandigarh, the authorities are yet to accept these in the true spirit, as most villages lack basic amenities. Lack of concrete roads, streetlights, adequate health and sanitation services comprise a small list of the larger picture of neglect.

Chandigarh, September 05 The Manimajra Farmers Welfare and Environment Protection Society reiterated their accusation against the Chandigarh Administration of having a biased attitude towards them.

In the executive body meeting of the society, the members said the Administration is misleading the people by suppressing and twisting the facts.

The Chandigarh Administration has claimed that it will introduce 60,000 direct jobs for information technology professionals in the next two years. Going by the present employment scenario in the city, however, it seems the Administration needs to do something sooner than that. There are more than 500 graduate engineers, besides hundreds of diploma engineers, who are jobless in Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, September 05 An Indo-US joint workshop, the first of its kind, on the environmental risks of the respiratory diseases started here on Friday. The workshop is focussing on preparing a list of recommendations to be followed in the two countries to combat environment-related health hazards.

Nearly 20 experts from top institutes of the USA, including the National Institute of Health (NIH), are participating in the workshop being organised by the Department of Pulmonary Medicine at PGI.

Chandigarh, September 4 Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation (Hafed) has introduced certified organic mustard oil in 500 ml pack, for Panchkula, Chandigarh and Delhi markets.

Haryana Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha said initially it is available at Hafed retail outlet at Chandigarh and Hafed corporate office, Panchkula, Hafed office, Delhi and Hafed retail sale outlet,Taraori, Karnal district. Extracted out of mustard seed grown in certified organic farms in Haryana, Hafed organic mustard oil is available at a price of Rs 61 per bottle in 500 ml packs.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today made it clear that the state government would provide same kind of facilities to the surplus BPL families as the number of BPL families in the state is much higher than permitted by the Planning Commission. He said the list has been finalised and all objections would be redressed before October 15.

Talking to the media persons, Hooda said the increase in the BPL families should not be interpreted as the increase in the number of poor.

Senior Standing Counsel, UT Administration, Advocate Anupam Gupta has cleared all legal doubts with regard to banning plastic and polythene carry bags in Chandigarh.

In his detailed legal opinion, Gupta has strongly advocated a complete ban on all shapes and sizes of plastic and polythene carry bags, relying upon the Plastic Manufacture Sale and Usage Rules, 1999, notified by the Central government under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.

With unauthorised expansion already consuming more than 50 per cent of the total area under the Nayagaon Nagar Panchayat, the Punjab government has not found any plot available for a city centre in Nayagaon.

The draft Master Plan of Nayagaon-2021 proposes only a district centre as a greenfield project.

Though spatial planning of Nayagaon is constrained by many factors, which none of the new towns in Chandigarh's periphery have faced so far, the Department of Local Government has felt the need for a planned future growth and development of Nayagaon.
