Ahmedabad: The state may be eyeing major investment in the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) but the government will have to redesign the project. Reason: A study commissioned by the Centre to Chennai-based Anna University has reported heavy soil erosion in the region.

''The Cabinet has given its nod for the permanent solution to check sea erosion in 300 km coastline of Karnataka. The work will commence after monsoon and sea erosion will be checked permanently by 2018,'' said District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar.

SRM University faculties of the department of civil engineering Dr Deeptha Thattai and R Sathyanathan submitted a feasibility study of coastal erosion in Karnataka to the state government through Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj here at KCCI.

The study was initiated by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry as its corporate social responsibility project to commemorate the 70th anniversary.

The audit was done to examine whether due diligence has been exercised in selection of a private developer for development of a Pondicherry Port on BOT basis and the procedure laid down by the Union Government in this regard has been followed by Government of Pondicherry.
