ITANAGAR: Researchers from Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), near here have claimed to spot three endangered species of vultures at Dying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary in East Siang district, during the course of research studies.

The team of researchers including Dr Daniel Mize, RGU Assistant Professor and Junior Research fellow Rajat Chetry who, underwent research studies here for a week recently, as part of a project to assess vulture population status in Siang region, said that they have come across several species of vulture, out of which three endangered species – Gyps Bengalensis, Gyps Indicus and Gyps Tenuirostris were also recorded.

Three endangered species of vultures have been spotted at the Dying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary in East Siang district by a team of researchers from the Rajiv Gandhi University in Arunachal Pradesh.

The team of researchers including Daniel Mize, RGU Assistant Professor, and Junior Research fellow Rajat Chetry, who undertook research to assess vulture population status in Siang region, said they have come across several species of vulture out of which three endangered species — Gyps Bengalensis (white-rumped vulture), Gyps Indicus (Indian vulture) and Gyps Tenuirostris (slender-billed vulture) were also recorded.

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resources and Development Agency (APBRDA) has urged Centre to provide one time grant-in-aid of Rs 15 crore for regeneration and restocking of bamboo plantation in the gregarious bamboo flowering affected areas of the State.

A delegation of APBRDA in a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Tariq Anwar in New Delhi on Saturday pleaded his personal intervention to provide the grant immediately.

Four persons were missing from worst affected Lohit district, official sources said here today. Economic adviser to the Chief Minister and lone MLA from Anjaw, Kalikho Pul today said five people died in different parts of the hilly district adding all seven administrative centers – Hayuliang, Hawai, Manchal, Goliang, Walong,Kibitho and Chaglogam were completely cut off.

Itanagar: The ferocity of flood showed no sign of abating even after five days as incessant downpour fuelled all major rivers and tributaries, inundating five districts in which more than two lakh people were affected in Arunachal Pradesh, official sources said here today. Incessant rains over the past week has thrown life out of gear in Arunachal Pradesh with flood and landslides reported in many parts of the state.

Floods triggered by rain submerged paddy fields, causing erosion and landslides in many areas of Nari, Ruksin, Pasighat and adjacent areas of East Siang district, officials said on Wednesday. The historical MMJ road, considered as the lifeline of rural people of Ruksin sub-division, has been breached at several locations causing great problems to office goers and villagers. The flood also caused extensive damage to rural link roads, they said.

Itanagar: Over a hundred people were affected by an undiagnosed disease at Pasighat town and its adjoining areas in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh since early this month.

The disease is like viral fever but no medicine available in the district to fight the symptoms have helped those ailing from it. Tako Dabi, political advisor to chief minister, who is also a victim of the disease said in a statement on Tuesday that the symptoms were neither that of malaria nor of typhoid which are prevalent in Arunachal Pradesh. This has drawn the attention of the state government for early solution to the problem.

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government has issued strict instruction to all the officers of forest department and wild-life divisions throughout the State for protection of forest, wildlife and bio-diversity.

The instruction was issued by the Chief Minister Nabam Tuki while considering the plea of Fringe Peoples Forum-WL (FPF-WF) of East Siang district for stringent measures to save forest and wildlife recently, official sources informed on Wednesday.
