In a significant development, Environment and Forest Minister Jairam Ramesh has confirmed that no changes will be undertaken in Coastal Regulation Notification without first consulting fishing and other communities and assuring that the controversial draft CZM notification, would be allowed to lapse on July 22.

The Indian Minister for Environment and Forests, Mr. Jairam Ramesh, has confirmed that the controversial Coastal Zone Management Notification will be allowed to lapse. He has also stated that any reform will involve deep consultations with the fishing and other coastal communities.

Meena Kumari, the Director of the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT).

THE village committee of Periyathalai has pleaded with the authorities concerned to cancel the proposed private harbour in Manappadu. President of the village committee, Felix told that around 8,000 people were occupied in fishing activities in Periyathalai. Recently, the government has given its approval for the setting up of a private harbour in Manappadu.
