Ahmedabad Urban Development Association (Auda) has passed the first affordable housing scheme in the newly declared residential affordable housing (RAH) zone in Khodiyar area, which comes under Town Planning scheme - 60.

The developers, Manubhai Patel Company, have been given permission to construct 53 housing units in the zone. Each house will have a buildup of 63 square meters.

Mumbai: The city’s skyline may have more skyscrapers in future if the state authorities consider the central government’s recommendation to review the FSI policy for Mumbai to meet the affordable housing demand. The recommendation came on Monday.

Union housing minister Ajay Maken said megacities like Mumbai needed to review the FSI (floor space index) policy to encourage more affordable housing. He said affordable housing should now be accorded the status of basic infrastructure to facilitate more stock of affordable houses for the urban populace. Taller Buildings To Be Encouraged Over Wide Area

Ahmedabad: Raising the floor space index (FSI) by up to 30% across Ahmedabad to create more affordable housing units will be the thrust of the new development plan (DP) likely to be announced on Friday. The plan, which covers 1,772 sq km covering 68 villages, is expected to raise the FSI from the existing 1.2 in R-2 zones — construction of 1,200 sq yards on a plot of 1,000 sq yards — to 1.8, thus paving way for vertical growth on outskirts.
