Mumbai: In a major infrastructure move within the state, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Maharashtra government have thrown open the whopping Rs 6,000-crore National and State Highway Development and Maintenance Programme to the private sector.

New Delhi: With the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) set to finalize the alignment of a 61 km-long expressway next month, the travel time between Delhi and Meerut may be reduced to approximately 45 minutes from the usual two hours once the project is completed.

Reliance Infrastructure has bagged a Rs 2,676 crore-expressway project connecting Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad and Sonepat. The company, a sole bidder for project, will recover its investment in 20 years by collecting toll from expressway users.

A majority of the 17 road works awarded under the public-private partnership (PPP) scheme in the first phase of National Highways Development Programme (NHDP) were delayed, according to a recent report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. Of these projects, only five were completed in time, while there were delays of 2-42 months in others.
