The Mapithel Dam Affected Ching-Tam Organization (MDACTO) chairman, Rantha Shaiza, addressing a press conference in Imphal today, said that they were not against the construction of Mapithel dam, their only demand was that the Government of Manipur give appropriate compensation without any discrimination to the people affected by the dam.

Manipur State Government departments have earmarked financial resources to tackle a possible drought-like situation in the State. The cost of combating drought is estimated at Rs 4.41 crore to be spent by the agriculture department while the minor irrigation department is expected to spend about Rs 1.5 crore. The agriculture department has a total of approximately four lakh hectares of land.

The Manipur Government has requested the Union Ministry of Agriculture for additional funds for setting up of seven more horticulture processing units under the Technology Mission for Development of Horticulture in North Eastern Region citing that four units have been set up so far in Manipur.

Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has been urged to declare pineapple as the State fruit by the Manipur Pineapple Festival Committee, MPFC in a memorandum recently.
