The Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers presented its report on ‘Insecticides and Pesticides – Promotion and Development including Safe Usage – Licensing Regime for Insecticides’ on December 19, 2023. Pesticides are broadly of four types: insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and bio-pesticides.

The Government of India has introduced the Insecticides (Prohibition) Order, 2023. It was published on 3rd October, 2023 and has come into immediate effect. This Order aims at regulating and restricting the usage of specific insecticides, carries significant implications for the insecticide industry and agriculture.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, (MoAFW) on September 01, 2023, published the Draft Insecticides (Sixth Amendment) Rules, 2023 to further amend the Insecticides Rules, 1971.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW) on November 22, 2022, published the Draft Insecticides (Amendment) Rules, 2022. To further amend the Insecticides Rules, 1971 They shall come into effect on November 22, 2022.

The Ministry of agriculture and farmer’s welfare (MoAFW) on October 27, 2022, issued a notification to further amend the Insecticides Rules, 1971. this has come into force on October 27, 2022.

Genetically modified (GM) crops have increased global food, feed and fibre production by nearly 1 billion tonnes (1996-2020), whilst helping farmers who grow these crops to reduce the environmental footprint associated with their crop protection practices by over 17 percent.
