There is progressive improvement in uranium fuel position for operating indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) with gradual increasing in production from indigenous uranium mills besides the imported fuel, department of Atomic Energy sources said.

The Madhya Pradesh government has imported 50,000 metric tonnes of coal from Indonesia to deal with its shortage which is affecting power generation in the state, official sources said.
"The imported coal has reached a port in Gujarat and will reach the state shortly," Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL) Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) RB Agarwal said.

The Madhya Pradesh Government on Thursday again raised the issues of shortage of electricity and coal for thermal power plants. Time and again, the State Government has raised the issues with senior Union Cabinet Ministers but to no avail.

The government has formally said no to import duty on power generating equipment. The decision to maintain the status quo came as a disappointment to the country

New Delhi: The power ministry has opposed a move for immediate imposition of import barriers, including slapping of upto 14% safeguards duty, on power generation equipment from China to protect domestic manufacturers such as state-run Bhel.

Anxious to bridge the ever-widening gap between the rising demand for coal and its inadequate supply, the Coal Ministry today said the country would have to import 82 million tones coal to fire its blast furnaces and power turbines in 2010-11.

Calcutta, Feb. 11: India may have to import more coal in 2011-12 as domestic production could fall well short of the target.

The gap between demand and domestic production is expected to increase to 81 million tonnes (mt) in 2011-12 compared with the initial projection of 51mt. Domestic production, estimated at 681mt in 2011-12, may come down to 630mt.
