THE steel ministry has asked National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to expand the road network in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and West Bengal keeping in mind the massive growth of steel production in these states by 2011-12. It estimates that the traffic load on the highways will jump from 125 million tonnes to 234 million tonnes in the next three years.

BHUBANESWAR: At least three people were killed after inhaling poisonous carbon monoxide gas in a sponge iron factory in Orissa's Jharsuguda district, police said Friday.

The deaths occurred at the Singhal Enterprises Private Ltd. factory at Hirma, some 400 km from here, at around 8 p.m. Thursday.
