Shimla: The spotting of two snow leopards by wildlife staff near Chichim in Kibber area of Lahaul-Spiti area a few days back has raised the hopes of an increase in the number of the highly endangered animal for which a special conservation programme is being launched.

Chandigarh: Glaciers are here to stay in the Himalayas. Studies conducted by glaciologists across the Himalayan region in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have shown that global warming has little to do with their melting.

Passive solar heating of houses is a clean technology which was made mandatory in the government/semi-government sector in 1994 in the Western Himalaya state of Himachal Pradesh. HP is the first state in India to take such a policy decision for promoting energy efficiency in buildings. A Solar House Action Plan was formulated and is being implemented effectively in the state.
