A ruling Awami League lawmaker in Netrakona has grabbed around 14 acres of forestland including a hill and planted orange and palm saplings.

The local forest department, custodian of the land, had objected to the planting, but Mostak Ahmed Ruhi, MP from Netrakona-1, pressed ahead.

Bangalore: Officials of the Belekeri Port near Karwar have allegedly allowed illegal use of a major area of the port by some private firms to export a large quantity of iron ore worth crores of rupees.

The presence of encroachments around Gujjar Nullah pose a flood threat to four towns, namely, New Karachi Town, Gulberg Town, North Nazimabad Town and Liaquatabad Town, in case more heavy torrential rain occurs in the city.

The lives and essentials of those residing in the residential units near the nullah are also at risk.

Over 70 lakes in Mandya, Shimoga and Hassan districts have been encroached upon by the land sharks. Several of these lakes have reportedly been encroached upon by local cartels and powerful individuals.
