Bhopal: The Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran co ltd (MPKVV) has started preparations to supply needed electricity to the farmers for irrigation during the Rabi season. MPKVV is going to take effective measures to make arrangements to supply adequate electricity to the farmers and prevent as much as possible undeclared power-cuts during the Rabi season.

Due to monsoon rains in the state during the last two days, the power demand has come down to 5000 megawatts from 5800 megawatts. At present, 4200 megawatt power is available to meet the demand.

Generally, 'Nav Tapa' (the 9 hottest days) ends on 4th or 5th June and by June 10 the monsoon enters the state. But, this year, monsoon is yet to come. Looking into the delay of monsoon the energy department, anticipating such a situation three months ago, had instructed the Madhya Pradesh Power Trading Company and Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company to prepare disaster management work plan.

Due to coal shortage power production in thermal power projects of the MP Electricity Board has affected adversely. Several units have been closed because of shortage in coal supply. Electricity Board officials are trying their level best at the highest level to overcome the coal shortage. In spite of this supply of coal is being reduced.

The Madhya Pradesh government has imported 50,000 metric tonnes of coal from Indonesia to deal with its shortage which is affecting power generation in the state, official sources said.
"The imported coal has reached a port in Gujarat and will reach the state shortly," Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL) Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) RB Agarwal said.
