The killing of a deer in a Maharashtra forest by an alleged close associate of the state forest minister could come back to embarrass the state government. This incident comes only a few months after former Maharashtra minister Dharmarao Baba Atram lost his ministerial post after allegedly poaching a chinkara, an endangered and protected species of deer.

MUMBAI: A day after a Supreme Court order stating that it will not interfere with the judgments passed by the Bombay High Court regarding encroachments in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), forest authorities are drawing up plans to remove encroachments from within the 104-sq km park. The HC had earlier directed phase-wise removal of encroachments from the park.
